Mr. James (Jim) Swan was born in Havre, Montana. He was raised throughout the state while his father, the late Dr. Robert J. Swan, was attending college and graduate school. Mr. Swan was raised by Dr. Robert J. Swan (a recognized leader in Indian education) and Susan M. Swan (who is a fixture in the community of Havre). He graduated from Havre High School in 1984. Mr. Swan then attended the University of Dallas, where he received a B.A. in Economics and Politics (double major), graduating Magna Cum Laude. He then attended graduate school at the Committee on Social Thought at the University of Chicago, where he ended up with ABD status.
While in Chicago, Mr. Swan took a job as an Assessment Coordinator at Native American Educational Services College in Chicago. This position led to other appointments, including teaching positions and a position administering a job training program within the Chicago Native American community. Mr. Swan then went to Alaska for two years, where he was a grant writer for an Alaska Native non-profit. These positions led him on a career path that eventually brought him back home. After being away from the State of Montana for 14 years, Jim was recruited to return to Montana to work for RJS & Associates, Inc., which was founded by his late father. Jim has been with RJS for the last 22 years and has served as the CEO for the past 12 years. Mr. Swan splits his time between his home base in Rocky Boy and the home of his partner Stephanie in Billings. He has 3 dogs and is an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers
